    With a November rise in Bank Rate looking likely, Citizens Advice is urging the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) to take action now to help people who are already struggling to repay their debts. The Bank of England consumer credit statistics, published yesterday, show that consumer borrowing has risen by 9.9% in the year to September 2017, now totalling £204 billion. Earlier this month, the FCA revealed that half of people are financially vulnerable and eight million are already over-indebted.

    Borro has warned that the banking industry must improve speed of access to finance for business owners, or risk a continued slowdown in business investment. The short term lender issued its warning after the ONS released its quarterly GDP data. According to the preliminary data, UK gross domestic product (GDP) was estimated to have increased by 0.3% in Quarter 1 (Jan to Mar) 2017, the slowest rate of growth since Quarter 1 2016.

    Home buyer Quick Move Now has reported that the number of house sales failing to successfully complete decreased in the second quarter of 2017, with more than one in four house sales falling through before completion compared to one in three seen in the previous quarter. Its data indicate that 26% of all house sales across England and Wales fell through before completion in Q2 which was a massive decrease from 35% seen in the previous quarter.

    The government has decided not to legislate to ban pensions cold-calling. Peta Buscombe, Conservative member of the House of Lords and parliamentary under-secretary of state for work and pensions told the chamber that the Financial Guidance bill would not contain a move to outlaw cold-calling.
