The board of a much-loved African Caribbean centre has pressed Liverpool Council for answers over the future of their site after a deal was agreed for a new school to share the land. Amid a public campaign last month, the local authority agreed the site for a girls’ school in Toxteth that had initially threatened to displace the existing centre off Upper Parliament Street.

People are feeling a sense of optimism as Wirral Council plans to pump millions of pounds into an area that’s one of a kind outside of London. Wirral Council is currently carrying out two public feedback exercises about its plans for historic Hamilton Square and the area around Birkenhead Town Hall. One revolves around plans for parking restrictions, improved pavements, and new cycle lanes while the other is a wider regeneration plan for the area.

Metro Mayor Steve Rotheram has pressed the Prime Minister on how the Liverpool City Region and the area’s economy can be protected from the worst of tariffs imposed by the United States. In a flurry of announcements on what was referred to as “Liberation Day” US President Donald Trump announced a series of tariffs on nations across the globe. Among them was the UK with a 10% levy put on all imports from Britain to the United States.

A new ‘state-of-the-art’ gym and spa could open up as part of a major ongoing development in Wirral. David Lloyd Leisure, the largest health, fitness and leisure company in Europe, has submitted plans for a brand-new club at Wirral Waters, the major regeneration project for the docks between Birkenhead and Wallasey. If created, the new gym would be located on the site of the former Bidston Dock off Wallasey Bridge road.

A second bar in one of Liverpool city centre’s busiest areas faces a city council probe after its licence was put under review. With Sotto on Wood Street to undergo a hearing at Liverpool Town Hall next week, the neighbouring Wood Street Bar and Kitchen is now under scrutiny from city officials. The venue, which is permitted to open until 2am on Friday and Saturday, is to undergo a licence review after concerns were raised about the premises’ ability to protect children from harm.
