boats.com

Founded in 1999, boats.com is the largest global search engine dedicated to the leisure marine industry, showcasing over 120,000 boats from 146 different countries. Its strong URL establishes boats.com as the ultimate destination for all things boating, offering a wealth of resources including boating news, DIY guides, blog articles, videos, reviews, and boat listings. For original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and their dealer networks, boats.com provides powerful marketing tools to help promote and sell both new and used boats worldwide. Initially launched as a private start-up in San Francisco during the dot-com boom, boats.com was backed by venture capital. In January 2000, boats.com made headlines by acquiring YachtWorld, marking a significant milestone as the first online content deal in the boating sector. Shortly thereafter, the platform expanded its reach to Europe, with Ian Atkins opening the first European office in Fareham, England, to cater to markets in the UK, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Netherlands, and Australia. After being acquired in 2004, boats.com spent the next six years enhancing its content with articles, videos, reviews, and comprehensive boat listings, solidifying its status as the go-to website for all boating enthusiasts. In 2010, boats.com, YachtWorld, and Boat Trader united to create Boats Group (formerly known as Dominion Marine Media), bringing together the three top marine websites. Boats Group was acquired by Apax Partners in July 2016 and then by Permira Funds in February 2021.
