Lambeth Council is expected to give the green light this week to the controversial Brockwell Live series of commercial festivals, despite a looming legal challenge and intensifying public opposition. A report set to be signed off by Councillor Donatus Anyanwu, Cabinet Member for Stronger Communities, recommends approving a Park Event Permit for the Brockwell Live events, scheduled for 23 May to 1 June in Brockwell Park.

Lambeth Council has been found to have acted unlawfully in its handling of the West Dulwich Low Traffic Neighbourhood (LTN), following a landmark High Court judgment that delivers a major blow to the Labour-run authority — and a resounding victory for residents. In a judgment handed down today, Judge Tim Smith ruled that Lambeth failed to consider key evidence before imposing controversial traffic restrictions through Experimental Traffic Orders (ETOs).

Lambeth Council looks set to sign off the second phase of its Selective Licensing Scheme — expanding regulation to nearly every corner of the borough’s private rented sector. From July 2025, landlords in 19 additional wards — covering areas from Clapham and Brixton to Streatham and Kennington — will be legally required to obtain licences to rent out properties. The cost will be £640 for a five year licence.

Lambeth Council gave the green light on Tuesday to a ‘temporary’ planning application for the Lambeth Country Show at a Town Hall meeting that was technically public, though the public weren’t really invited to speak. The decision rubber-stamps 17 days of fenced-off access to Brockwell Park this June – all for a community event that now conveniently helps justify the much more lucrative Brockwell Live festivals.

Three years after the Kerslake Review told Lambeth Council to shut down Homes for Lambeth (HfL) and take housing back in-house, the zombie company is still very much alive. And yes, it’s still burning through your money. According to the freshly released Homes for Lambeth Business Plan 2025/26, HfL plans to prop itself up with a generous £9 million working capital loan from the Council. Just over £5 million of that pot hasn’t been touched yet – but don’t worry, it almost certainly will be.
