    Rite Aid has officially filed for bankruptcy for the second time since 2023 and will close all its stores, including 13 Brooklyn locations. The drugstore chain filed on May 5 and announced they will pursue a sale of their prescriptions, pharmacy and front-end inventory, and other assets. Rite Aid Corp. also stated they are in active discussions with multiple potential buyers, and all stores will either be shuttered or be operated by a new owner.

    Former Councilmember Ari Kagan held a fundraiser event in support of his run for the 48th City Council District seat at Oleandr Restaurant, 410 Brighton Beach Avenue May 1. The district covers parts of Gravesend and Homecrest, Coney Island, Sea Gate, Brighton Beach, Midwood, Madison, Sheepshead Bay, Manhattan Beach and Gerritsen Beach. He will be running against Councilmember Inna Vernikov who has held the seat since 2022 in the Republican primary Tuesday, June 24.

    C is for cookie and champion for a Bay Ridge Girl Scout. Ashleigh F., 12, was named the top cookie seller in all five boroughs by the Girl Scouts of Greater New York. She sold a massive 2,528 boxes of cookies this year. She was able to sell a large selection of the sweet treats, from Thin Mints to Samosas. “I felt really excited because I never thought I would be first,” she told this paper. “I thought I’d be second or third because the all-time seller used to sell 5,000.
