OLPH holds final Easter Hat Parade as school set to close in June

It was an eggcellent day at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Academy of Brooklyn as the school hosted its annual and final Easter Hat Parade on April 15. During the day, students from pre-kindergarten to eighth grade celebrated Holy Week and walked around the Sunset Park school wearing their homemade Easter-themed hats. Their parents and families also went to watch and support the parade.
Three new companies join ‘Pilots at BAT’ program

The New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) announced that three new companies are coming to the Brooklyn Army Terminal (BAT) April 16. Pliant Energy Systems, Armstrong World Industries and LG CNS have joined the Pilots at BAT program, which gives space to, and helps, new and emerging companies in the field of climate technology, which includes sectors like roofing, energy efficiency, HVAC systems and more.
Three men arrested after allegedly going into Bensonhurst sewer

Three men were arrested for allegedly entering the sewer system from the street on 17th Avenue and 82nd Street on April 14. Cops are still searching for other suspects. At 5 p.m. the men reportedly opened a manhole cover and climbed down inside the sewer system. Cops said one man stayed on the street and reattached the manhole cover. Zion McKenzie, 25, Shawan Thompson, 26, and Willie Green, 39, were arrested later that night.
Crooks break into Bensonhurst home, steal cash

Two crooks broke into a Bensonhurst home, attacked a man inside and stole $2,200 in cashduring the early morning of April 12. At 3:30 a.m., the thieves broke into the home on 21st Avenue and 72nd Street. Cops said one of the invaders pepper-sprayed the man, 58, before they grabbed the cash from a bedroom. They ran out of the home and fled in a minivan. The victim was taken to Maimonides Medical Center for treatment.

The 77th Street subway station in Bay Ridge was out of service during the evening hours of April 9 as pieces of the edge of the outward-bound platform fell onto the track. MTA New York City Transit’s X account said at 10:05 p.m. that there was no R service between Bay Ridge-95th Street and 59 Street, some Bay Ridge-bound R trains ended at 59th Street or 4 Avenue-9 Street and that R trains were delayed in both directions as they were conducting an investigation at 77th Street.

A man who is reportedly in the country illegally and has a long arrest record has been charged with groping a 16-year-old student at the High School of Telecommunication Arts and Technology in Bay Ridge and trespassing there on April 8. Cops said Jose Duran Enrique, 45, was at the vestibule of the school at 9:15 a.m. when he grabbed the student’s buttocks. He then fled the school on foot. Police found him at 10:30 a.m. and arrested him.
Assault charges against Zhuang dropped after she completes program

Assault charges against Councilmember Susan Zhuang, who bit a police officer during a homeless shelter protest in Gravesend last year, were dropped by Brooklyn Criminal Court Judge Masateru Marubashi on Monday, April 8. The Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office said Zhuang completed a restorative justice program.
Take Two: Deno’s set for its own opening-day ceremonies on Palm Sunday

Following the recent official opening day of Luna Park in Coney Island, Deno’s Wonder Wheel Amusement Park will have its turn with opening ceremonies on April 13. Scheduled for Palm Sunday, the festivities will start at 10 a.m. on the boardwalk at West 12th Street with remarks from the Vourderis family, who own the park, elected officials and community leaders. Then, the park’s 40th annual Blessing of the Rides ceremony will take place. The day also marks its 70th annual Palm Sunday opening.
