    A new £10 million cement terminal at the Port of Workington has been opened. Thomas Armstrong Group’s facility on the Prince of Wales Dock site is designed to handle imported cement and other powders and features a 20,000-tonne storage capacity across two silos. The project has doubled the storage capacity with the design nominated for the 2024 UK Trimble Tekla Awards. New weighing and automation technology means a 44-tonne lorry can be loaded in less than 10 minutes, cleanly with no wastage.

    The port of Heysham is to receive a makeover worth £10million in readiness for a new fleet of ships which will increase freight capacity across the Irish Sea. Heysham’s owners, Peel Ports Group, says the investment will increase capacity and bring efficiencies to the site to ‘future-proof operations and resilience’ as well as support customers in increasing volumes that can pass through the port.
