Canadian Hockey League (CHL)

The Canadian Hockey League (CHL; French: Ligue canadienne de hockey ‒ LCH) is an overarching organization that includes three major junior ice hockey leagues in Canada. Established in 1975 as the Canadian Major Junior Hockey League, the CHL consists of the Western Hockey League, the Ontario Hockey League, and the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. During the 2021–22 season, these leagues featured a total of 60 teams across nine provinces in Canada (52 teams) and four states in the U.S. (8 teams). The highlight of the CHL season is the Memorial Cup tournament, where the champions from each league, along with a host team, compete in a round-robin format to crown a national champion. Additionally, the CHL organizes the CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game, showcasing the best draft-eligible players in the league, and the CHL Canada/Russia Series, which is a six-game exhibition featuring an all-star team of Russian junior players.
