George Largent can’t praise the staff of the Mercy cardiovascular clinic in Joplin, Missouri, enough. “They’ll pray with you, cry with you, laugh with you, and hold your hand. And then tell you to stop eating salt,” he said, laughing. Largent, 76, of Joplin, has been a Mercy heart patient since February 2024, when he had triple bypass surgery. He’s a regular patient at the fluid management program, which helps him manage his symptoms and monitor his heart health.

That's one reason its Program of All-inclusive Care for the Elderly, or PACE, is one of the nation's largest and has the broadest geographic footprint. PACE is an option for elderly people who would be eligible for nursing home care to have access to a full continuum of health care services that allow them to live at home. People who are eligible for Medicare and Medicaid can take part in PACE.
