ST. ALBANS CITY — City Hall buzzed with chatter and curiosity last Thursday as the Franklin County Community Volunteering Fair got underway. More than 30 organizations showed off their volunteer opportunities and 62 attendees browsed available ways to pitch in and help out. Organizer Erin Creley said she was pleased with the turnout given the rainy weather and the event’s first-time status.

SWANTON — Missisquoi Valley School District is looking into adding a School Resource Officer for its elementary schools. The school board directed Superintendent Julie Regimbal May 13 to work with Swanton Police Chief Matt Sullivan to apply for a grant that would partially fund the position. Swanton Police Officer Dean Scott has been the SRO at Missisquoi Valley Middle and High School for the last four years.

ST. ALBANS — Senior trades students got time in the spotlight Wednesday at the first-ever Skilled Trades Signing Day. Northwest Career & Technical Center, in collaboration with BFA-St. Albans, recognized 14 students who plan to start careers in skilled trades immediately after graduation. “This was a great opportunity to showcase students who are entering the workforce debt-free and the employers who are supporting them,” Lisa Durocher, assistant director at NCTC, said.
