An estimated 80,000 people died from overdoses last year, according to provisional Centers for Disease Control and Prevention data released Wednesday. That’s down 27% from the 110,000 in 2023. The CDC has been collecting comparable data for 45 years.

A man was found guilty by a Boulder County jury Wednesday for his involvement in a drug ring and kidnapping case from 2022 and 2023. Carlos Alonso Ytuarte-Quinones, 37, was found guilty Wednesday on 19 out of 20 counts including 12 charges related to controlled substances; two charges relating to organized crime; kidnapping charges; a burglary charge; and motor vehicle theft charge. He is set for sentencing on July 11.
