Here is a collection of eclectic and colorful examples of the talent of the Broomfield Art Guild members. We use quite a range of materials and techniques to achieve our works of art — from traditional oil to scratchboard, where the art is meticulously scratched into black wax to expose the white surface beneath using an X-acto knife, and all media in between. The Art Guild meets the second Tuesday of each month at 1 p.m. at the Broomfield Presbyterian Church, 350 Main St., Broomfield.

My first byline was in the works for the Independent Florida Alligator, an off-campus news publication in Gainesville, Fla. It was a simple story. AmeriCorps was hosting an event and I was to spread the word. I met with a spokesperson for all the juicy details and quotes I could spin into a published story. He was not a nice man. “Why are you writing with a pencil?”“I don’t know. I write faster with pencils.”“That’s dumb. What if you smudge the entire interview?” he asked.

The Broomfield Art Guild presents several new paintings this month by different artists. The styles and mediums range from watercolor, acrylic and oil to fluid acrylic (where the paint is poured on to canvas and then tilted, spun, or otherwise manipulated) to abstract, mixed media and scratchboard — creating images by literally scratching away the black paint coating with an X-acto knife to expose the underlying white surface.

TodayVundabar and Yot Club at the Fox: 7 p.m. Monday, The Fox Theatre, 1135 13th St., Boulder. Opening this show is California musician, alt-indie, pop-infused up-and-comer Faerybabyy. Next up is Vundabar, a Boston-based trio that delivers jangly, fuzzed-out math-and-surf-tinged indie with plenty of post-punk spirit à la Beantown luminaries The Pixies. Nashville-to-Brooklyn Yot Club will open the show, bringing daydreamy, sun-blasted, Polaroid-pop; z2ent.com.

This was a wild night. Ubered to Gothic then to Ogden. @therecordcomp put on a damn fine show, though. Warmed that frozen evening right up. https://t.co/FGM4o6lRZ2

Tonight’s show is being moved to the Ogden Theatre. Just now, the Gothic experienced an unfixable frozen pipe & plumbing issue and the show cannot continue there. Please join us at the Ogden and the show will go on! 9pm doors, 10pm showtime.

Does everyone listen to TikTok out loud on planes now? Or is it because I’m going to Florida? In related news, @FlyFrontier is the worst.

Real goddamn sick of readers making me cry. Just hit my 19th year as a journalist. And yes, I’m working on my weekend again. 🔥out
