In news that may cheer bike shops and distributors on British shores, the UK is set to review the ‘De Minimis’ £135 threshold for import duty. If that goes the way campaigners hope it will, the retail ‘playing field’ will be in part levelled between UK shops and overseas retailers and marketplaces. The so-called ‘small parcels’ category of imports – when goods can be imported into a country without incurring customs duties – is reportedly a growing area.

This week, ahead of a five-day trial due to commence at the High Court, Mr Justice Ritchie approved and sealed a £4.5 million settlement order for a severely injured NHS resident doctor. Among the details was an emphasis on bike standards and testing. Dr Daniel Gordon, an experienced cyclist, sustained a life-changing spinal cord injury when the front forks of a Planet X Tempest SRAM Force 1 titanium bike sheared in two on a grass slope in Inverness in August 2020.

Woodside Cycle Centre is an off-road race/training venue currently in construction in Cowling, near Keighley in North Yorkshire. Crowdfunding is now underway to contribute to the creation of this new MTB and CX venue, which will be managed by a community not-for-profit organisation. Designed to enhance off-road cycling for all ages and skill sets, the project is being headed up by Director Tim Ferguson, father of Cat Ferguson.
