I read the first book in the Charley Scott mystery series a few years ago, you can find my review here. The second in the series titled Shudder Pulp by Vanessa Westermann is much the same, but it takes place during the shorter days of fall instead of the hot days of summer. The hallmarks of what I loved in the first book have also returned; the cottage country setting, the cozy mystery vibe, and the chocolatier and his famous chocolate shop.

Perhaps you're ignorant of many famous historical events, like I am. I'm always astounded at what I don't know and continue to learn as I age. Books are (of course) a wonderful way of educating myself which is why I'm always recommending them. The main purpose of the meeting was to prepare for a larger summit between London and Brussels this month that will focus on formalizing cooperation on security and defense.

I always regretted not attending this one book event; it was a snowstorm here in Calgary and no one was on the roads, so as the consummate rule follower I am, I stayed home from seeing Kate Beaton speak about her new book Ducks: Two Years in the Oil Sands back in 2022. I saw the pictures afterwards and it looked like an incredible event, with musical accompaniment and lots of laughter. Sigh.
