Greetings eaters and readers and a question: Are we still in stew season? Or: Is stew ever out of season? Just tell me whatever answer allows me to enjoy the above Moroccan Chickpea Stew for as long as possible. A few months ago, during the holidays, when my whole family was under the same roof at the same time — a somewhat miraculous feat these days — I told the girls to save the next night for dinner at home. It was December in New York, so we were all being pulled in different directions, and I wanted to make sure we carved out some time to sit down together, eat good homemade food, and be, you know, intentional about it.

Greetings eaters and readers! Saturday felt like spring in New York for the first time this year, and I think I clocked 22,000 steps walking outside all day, even though we had people coming over for dinner, and there was a table to set, and onions to pickle…and…well, that’s sort of it. The whole line-up was genius, one of those low-lift, high-reward type of deals that has quickly become my go-to meal when friends come over.

Last year, when we downsized from our suburban house to a New York apartment that was half the size, we knew we were going to have to make sacrifices in terms of space and stuff. While we were preparing for the move, it felt like when I wasn’t on Craig’s List selling a slow cooker, I was driving to Goodwill to drop off a trunk load of books, clothes, mugs, and toys.

Greetings eaters and readers. Hope you had a nice weekend. My friend Lygeia and I had an A-plus New York mini-date last Saturday: Dumplings in Chinatown at Deluxe Green Bo, followed by a quick visit to the Nick Cave exhibit at the Jack Shaman Gallery, an intense and dramatic show anchored on three enormous bronze statues. The gallery itself, the new one in Tribeca, with its soaring marble columns and Italian Renaissance Revival coffered ceilings, was an essential part of the experience.
