Members of the authority’s planning, protective services and licensing committee were equally split, expressing surprise at a large area being used to allow staff to take breaks. But a roll call vote resulted in planning permission being awarded at the committee’s meeting on Wednesday, April 23.

    CAMPBELTOWN’S former Main Street Boots pharmacy could be revived as a coffee lounge under plans submitted to council officers. An applicant identified as Mrs L McLean has submitted the proposal to Argyll and Bute Council, with plans to also alter and repaint the shopfront. The Main Street branch of Boots in Campbeltown, at number 19, closed down in December 2023. Its other premises in the town, at Longrow, remains open.

    PLANS have been lodged for fabric repairs to take place at a Helensburgh town centre premises, including works to its roof and stone exterior. Bruce and Nicola Jamieson have lodged the proposal with Argyll and Bute Council for planning permission and listed building consent at the former Conservative Club at 38-40 Sinclair Street. The ground floor of the premises was most recently owned by M&Co, with bakers Greggs having recently lodged a separate application to move into it.
