AS VOLUNTEERS’ Week 2025 came to a close, the energy, passion and compassion of Argyll and Bute’s voluntary sector shone brightly at the Volunteer of the Year Awards, held on Friday, June 6 at the Rosslea Hall Hotel in Rhu. Hosted by Argyll and Bute Third Sector Interface (ABTSI) for a fifth year, the event was expertly MC’d by the TSI’s own Janis Marshall Reilly and featured musical performances from vocalist, TV presenter and dancer, Joy Dunlop.

DURING LAST month’s excellent spell of warm weather pupils at Kirn Primary School, (KPS), swapped out stuffy classroom lessons, for fresh air yoga sessions by a woodland river, as they spent the day in the wilderness. Pupils at KPS have been getting to know the great outdoors on their doorstep as part of the newly relaunched John Muir Award.

DUNOON GRAMMAR School’s head teacher has expressed confidence that the school will see a further improvement in its exam results in August. A report revealed that in the 2023/24 Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) exam diet, the school beat the local and national average A-C pass rates at all three levels. David Mitchell now expects to see further upward movement when the 2024/25 results are released in August, as a result of the work of staff at the school.

THE SUN shone brightly over Kirn last Friday as more than 20 community volunteers gathered for the annual Envirokirn summer planting session. Armed with trowels and surrounded by trays of small plants, the group met at the flagpole to begin their seasonal mission to brighten up the village. While a fewseasoned gardeners were on hand, most were local residents keen to lend a couple of hours to help make Kirn bloom.
