    ITS SEAPLANES have been a common sight over Cowal and Bute over the last 20 years but, last week, Loch Lomond Seaplanes mysteriously ceased trading. The company has cancelled all its flights and issued a message on its website to confirm the shock news, leaving passengers baffled and out of pocket. The company, founded in 2003 by aviation entrepreneur David West, was celebrated as the first commercial seaplane service in Scotland and the UK.

    A ONCE- OVERLOOKED patch of land at Struan Lodge in Dunoon has been transformed into a flourishing community garden, and locals are invited to see the transformation for themselves at a special open day on Saturday, May 3. The project, spearheaded by an enthusiastic team of volunteers from the Dunoon Community Development Trust, has turned the grounds of the Struan Lodge Residential and Day Care Centre into a shared, sustainable food-growing haven.

    ISLANDERS ON Bute are urging authorities to close the usually popular Ettrick Bay ahead of the Easter weekend after a dead whale was left decomposing at the popular swimming spot. The 15.5-metre sperm whale died last week after becoming stranded in the bay. It was initially spotted resting in the shallow waters, but despite monitoring efforts, the animal passed away naturally before it could be rescued.
