    A new outdoor gym, play area and car park in the centre of a local village has been given the go-ahead. Last November, Dallas Community Development Trust (DCDT) applied to demolish a neighbouring unused shop and house on Main Street to build a fenced pitch, area with gym equipment and parking space for community use - Moray Council has now granted planning permission, despite unpaid charges for non-domestic rates and council tax accrued before the site was purchased by the trust.

    An aerospace company is sponsoring a group of lifesavers based five miles away from its headquarters. Forres Enterprise Park-based orbital launch services company, Orbex, is providing Findhorn’s Moray Inshore Rescue Organisation (MIRO) with the much welcome funding boost. Orbex CEO, Phil Chambers, confirmed the money will support costs associated with mooring MIRO’s boats as part of the company’s commitment to supporting the local community.

    A successful rural bus service funded by the community it serves has announced an extended timetable. The daily 940 between Forres and Logie Steading - started in September 2023 by Finderne Development Trust (FDT) - will now run more frequently.

    Hundreds of walkers are taking on a spooky cross country fundraiser - overnight - on Saturday, June 21. The sold-out biennial Dava Ghost Train Walk over 23 miles from Grantown-on-Spey to Forres is set to raise money for maintenance of the off-road route maintained by the Dava Way Association (DWA). DWA secretary, Malcolm Campbell, the trek follows the Dava Way from Grantown Square to Dallas Dhu Distillery then onwards to Forres.

    A local team of teenagers reign soupreme following their regional challenge win. Forres Academy S2 pupils Ayla Santos Willmott, Jessica Gaynor and Sophie Dey won the annual Baxters Soup interschool Challenge, organised in partnership with DYW (Developing the Young Workforce) Moray. Ayla said: “We were grateful for the chance to participate. We are all still smiling!”Pupils were tasked with creating a new soup offering health benefits and using local produce.
