A shoplifter threatened to stab a retail worker in the face when confronted outside JD Sports in Elgin. A new sanctuary will open later this month at the Findhorn Ecovillage – almost exactly four years after the original building was destroyed by fire. Large enough to hold 80 people, the replacement has been constructed using donations from supporters from across the globe as well as £194,665 awarded by the UK Government’s levelling-up fund. Various events will be taking place on Easter Sunday and Monday, April 20 and 21, to mark the opening.

A section of a busy Elgin road will become one-way for two days next week. Moray Council is scheduled to carry out work on Reiket Lane during the course of both Friday, April 11, and the following day. The local authority says it will be making repairs to “iron works”, which in this context refers to drains or manhole covers. Traffic will be unable to turn left at the KFC roundabout and will be directed down the A96 instead.

A nursery has been judged ‘weak’ in two out of four categories by the Care Inspectorate. Back in February inspectors turned up unannounced at the nursery attached to Lhanbryde Primary and spent two days rating its condition and performance. Their report, which was made public this week, scored the staff at the facility as ‘good’. Meanwhile, the care they provided to the youngsters who attend there was classed as ‘adequate’.
