Frankfort State Journal

Frankfort State Journal

The State Journal is a broadsheet newspaper that primarily serves Frankfort, the capital city of Kentucky, as well as the surrounding Franklin County area. This publication has its roots in The Kentucky State Journal, which began as a Democratic morning daily featuring eight pages and six columns. John Meloan was the founder and first editor of The Kentucky State Journal, which launched on January 7, 1900. On February 9, 1911, The Kentucky State Journal merged with The Frankfort News to create The Frankfort News-Journal. The paper adopted its current name on June 20, 1912, under the leadership of editor Graham Vreeland.
