I had forgotten how much I enjoyed the storytelling and narrative voice of Alexander McCall Smith. When his exceptionally popular series The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency first appeared in 2002, I was enamored with his style and with his characters. While my interests have branched off over the years, I still scour the book sales for this author with my dad, who remains an avid devotee.

Easter baskets were not something I grew up with in the UK. We didn’t hunt eggs in the Midlands in the 1980s. Today we’re learning about snowflakes!Today was an awfully snowy day where I live, and it made me think about snow itself. What makes snow…well, snow? Why do snowflakes look the way they do? What is snow? Snow is frozen water.

After exiting bankruptcy just last year, JoAnn Stores has filed Chapter 11 again, and it looks like this time they’re done. Gordon Brothers (the company currently liquidating Big Lots and some years back A.C. Moore) is the “stalking horse,” which means the company is open to other bidders, but I wouldn’t hold my breath. If no others come along in the next 60 days, they will begin going out of business sales at all locations.
