Georgia Recorder
The Georgia Recorder is a nonprofit news organization that operates independently, dedicated to linking public policy with the real-life stories of individuals and communities impacted by those policies. Based just a short distance from the Georgia State Capitol, we offer a unique viewpoint on the state’s most pressing issues. While our office is located in downtown Atlanta, our focus extends to every part of Georgia, from the scenic Blue Ridge mountains to the flatlands of Bainbridge. We deliver a consistent blend of thorough articles, blog entries, and social media updates covering the latest news and progressive insights. We do not accept advertisements, impose paywalls, or sell subscriptions; instead, we believe that news is an essential service for the community. We also value government accountability and transparency, which we believe are important to all Georgians. Other news organizations are encouraged to republish our articles and photos, with the only requirement being that we are credited as the source. In recent years, many news outlets in Georgia have downsized their coverage, often leaving them ill-equipped to report on legislative hearings, press conferences, and other important state policy matters. This has resulted in a lack of attention for significant proposals regarding healthcare, education, community development, and other key areas that affect quality of life. The Georgia Recorder seeks to fill this gap. The Recorder is affiliated with States Newsroom, a national nonprofit organization recognized under 501(c)(3), and is funded by a group of donors. Despite this affiliation, we maintain our editorial independence.

We’ve passed the halfway point between the 2020 U.S. Census and the 2030 U.S. Census, but the battle over redistricting maps based on the last national headcount is still underway in Georgia. On Thursday, the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals will hear arguments about whether or not to enact new maps. The dispute stems from a claim that the state Legislature drew up maps that violate the Voting Rights Act and dilute the votes of Black Georgians.
