Half Moon Bay Review

The Half Moon Bay Review is a digital news platform and traditional broadsheet newspaper that has been dedicated to the Coastside region of San Mateo County, California, since 1898, covering the area from Pacifica to the Santa Cruz County border. It is released every Wednesday morning and is distributed via mail, over-the-counter sales, and rack placements to local residences and businesses along the Coastside. Additionally, the Review produces several complimentary magazines that are available throughout the Bay Area, such as On The Coastside, Neighborhoods, Coastside Guide, Readers Choice, and Eat.

They also recommend testing when experiencing symptoms. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control rated the levels of SARS-COV-2 virus in wastewater detection for California as very high. Levels have on the rise since early June.
Supervisors postpone affordable housing ballot measure

At a special meeting this week, the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors postponed placing a proposed measure authorizing development of affordable housing on the ballot. The proposed measure would have given the county blanket authorization for the housing projects rather than requiring separate approval for each project as required by Article 34 of the California constitution.
National Night Out brings neighbors together

All along the San Mateo County Coast, neighborhoods celebrated National Night Out on Tuesday. In Half Moon Bay residents embraced the evening as an opportunity to connect with neighbors and build community. Throughout the city, 22 block parties took place. The city encouraged the festivities by providing gift cards that organizers could use to pay for food, beverages and decorations – anything that could help make a block party successful.
Padilla, Eshoo introduce bill to expand Golden Gate Rec Area

U.S. Sen. Alex Padilla and Rep. Anna Eshoo introduced legislation this week that would allow the National Park Service to acquire the Scarper Ridge property in San Mateo County. The potential 896-acre acquisition is near Rancho Corral De Tierra, a nearly 3,900-acre site that’s already managed by the Park Service.
Harbor dredging to begin next spring

The San Mateo County Harbor District received the final permit from the Greater Farallones National Marine Sanctuary to begin the Pillar Point Harbor dredging and Surfers Beach sand replenishment projects in spring 2025. Supervisors support five-member PMAC

The San Mateo County Board of Supervisors unanimously passed a resolution on Monday to put a measure on the November ballot asking voters if the Pescadero Municipal Advisory Council should be reduced from 13 to five members elected at-large. The ballot will also include the initial election for the reduced-membership body. The resolution sponsored by Supervisor Ray Mueller amends a previous resolution approved by the board that reduced the number of seats to seven.

David Yamane, who was born and raised in Half Moon Bay and is now a professor of sociology at Wake Forest University, will speak about his new book “Gun Curious” at Blue Ocean Brewery this weekend. The book tells the story of how Yamane became a gun owner later in life after moving to North Carolina and the lessons he learned along the way. Yamane says there are a lot of legitimate and harmless reasons why people want to own guns.
Democracy in Pescadero tested

At its July meeting, the Pescadero Municipal Advisory Council revisited its previous decision to support a ballot measure that would ask voters to consider reducing the number of council members from 13 to five. At its June meeting, PMAC approved a resolution in support of putting the question to voters and asking them to make their selection of representatives if the measure passes. Following that June vote, the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors took up the question at their June 25 meeting.
