Forget Blur and Oasis. Pulp are arguably the most important band of the Britpop era. Definitely the most interesting and critically adored. They stood apart from the scene, proving the ’90s British guitar landscape was never just about two bands. Pulp’s reputation has only grown over the years. Their songs remain indie disco staples, and Different Class (1995) is now considered a British classic. Pitchfork even named it the best Britpop album of all time in 2017. Who can argue?

Dangerous Animals plays a dangerous game with its trailer, revealing exactly who the bad guy (ocean tour guide) is and what he’s going to do (kill people by feeding them to sharks). From That Small Island explores what that means.

Wondering how to get into The Armed? You’re not alone. They don’t make it easy — and that’s the point. Too loud for indie rock, too irreverent for hardcore, too well-read for meathead gym-metal, and too chaotically sincere to dismiss as a bit, The Armed defy genre and expectation. Their albums sound like breakdowns rendered in 4K, and their media presence is deliberately misleading. You will never know who’s in the band, and that’s part of the appeal.
