    Houston High School boys basketball head coach Dan Narancich will host a Basketball Fundamentals Camp for elementary school age players toward the end of this month. The camp will take place in Hiett Gymnasium and will run from Wednesday, May 28, through Friday, May 30. Sessions for boys in kindergarten through 3rd-grade will go from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m., while sessions for 4th through 6th-grade will be from 10 to 11:30 a.m.For information, email Narancich at [email protected].

    The two teams combined for 24 runs and 23 hits, but in the end the Houston High School softball team beat Liberty 15-9 in the first round of the Class 2 District 4 Tournament Thursday at Mountain Grove. Leading 6-4, the third-seeded Lady Tigers essentially won the game by scoring 8 runs in the bottom of the third inning. The rally began with a pair of walks with nobody out and included 6 hits and 2 more walks.

    The South Central Association conference middle school track and field championships meet was held Tuesday (May 6) at Mountain Grove. The event saw 11 SCA records set, including six by Houston athletes. The top-8 finishers in each event earned team points. In the 7th-grade team standings, Houston’s boys took second while the girls placed fifth. In the 8th-grade standings, the HMS girls were third and the boys were fourth.

    With the district tournament beginning this week, the Houston High School softball team has played as well or better recently than at any point during the season. The Lady Tigers hammered state-ranked Plato, 16-5, last Thursday at Carter Field and extended their winning streak to 7 games by routing Bourbon on Monday of this week, 13-2. “I feel like we’re playing pretty well lately,” said HHS head coach Jim Moore, “and it’s a good time to be doing that.

    At the 2025 South Central Association conference championships Monday at Mountain Grove, the Houston High School girls track and field team took second and the boys placed fifth. The top-8 finishers in each event scored points, with the winner making First-Team All-SCA, runners-up making the Second Team and third-place finishers receiving Honorable Mention. The Lady Tigers scored 181 points, while the host team from Mountain Grove scored 193.5 to finish first and Salem scored 113 to place third.
