Jadaliyya
Jadaliyya is an independent online magazine created by the Arab Studies Institute (ASI), which also oversees the Arab Studies Journal, Tadween Publishing, FAMA, and Quilting Point. This platform offers a distinct perspective, blending local insights, academic research, and advocacy aimed at audiences in the United States, the Middle East, and other regions. Currently, Jadaliyya publishes content in Arabic, French, English, and Turkish. Managed mainly by a dedicated team of volunteers and an expanding group of contributors, Jadaliyya is focused on presenting the Arab world from its own viewpoint. Instead of viewing the region solely as a site of conflict or security issues, we recognize it as a space filled with vibrant communities and active societies. In late 2011, ASI secured funding for the first time in two decades, with support from organizations such as the Social Science Research Council and the Open Society Institute. However, this funding does not cover all operational expenses, so ASI relies on volunteer efforts for at least two-thirds of its work, a significant decrease from complete reliance on volunteers prior to October 2011. All financial support is provided without conditions, which is evident in the activities and output of all five entities associated with ASI. For further insights into Jadaliyya's evolution, please refer to this interview.
