For the second time in three years, Triton is sending a hooper to the collegiate ranks. Ro’mello Pegues announced his decision to play for North Carolina Wesleyan University as family, friends and faculty applauded Thursday inside the media center. The four-year varsity member scored over 1,000 points for his career and helped Triton collect a 63-43 record during that span.

The International Hot Rod Association purchased GALOT Motorsports Park, also known as the Dunn-Benson Dragstrip, for $9,265,000 at the end of March. The purchase is ushering in a new era of motor sports at the 79-acre park in the Woods Crossroads community. The state-of-the-art dragstrip and park sits about 1.3 miles from the Harnett-Johnston county line.

Business is booming in the old Denim Capital where seven new enterprises have opened in the last 12 months and two more are on the way. Erwin is growing. Other businesses have expressed interest in the town of nearly 5,000 people as rooftops continue to sprout around it and in it — with abundance. It’s good to be Erwin. “There has been a lot of interest in the Town of Erwin over the last few years due to the growth in the surrounding areas,” said Erwin Town Manager Snow Bowden.
