Welcome to the ultimate hub where travel aficionados come together to share their insights and knowledge, helping you become a travel pro. This platform is not just about learning; it's a space to have fun, discover new places, and relax. I started this newsletter and website as a personal project. It all began when I reached out to a few friends who loved to travel and wanted to accumulate mileage like I did. We challenged each other to see who could rack up the most miles, and after surpassing them (having traveled an impressive 150,000 miles a year for the last decade), I decided to lend a helping hand. My initial emails provided them with tips on which numbers to call for earning double miles or points. As my creativity grew, so did my email list. I began adding features like travel tips, live webcams, and valuable travel websites. Soon, I received requests from people I didn’t even know, wanting to join my distribution list. When my subscriber count hit 500, I realized it was time to create a dedicated website. I saw that while there were many helpful sites out there, none had everything I needed in one place. With countless travel bookmarks that I couldn’t easily navigate, I organized them all into one user-friendly portal: The Johnny Jet Portal! This website is designed to connect travelers with all the resources the internet has to offer, whether you jet-set every week or travel just once every few years. It has become the go-to destination for thousands of travelers. Those who contribute to Johnny Jet share my passion for travel, and together we uncover the best ways to travel efficiently, comfortably, stylishly, and affordably. Spread the word and encourage your family, friends, and colleagues to subscribe to our free Johnny Jet Travel News, Tips, and Stories newsletter (here) and make use of our search engines when planning their trips. Here’s a travel moment that’s sure to bring a smile to your face and maybe even a few happy tears. On a Southwest Airlines flight earlier today, a little boy who had to miss his kindergarten graduation got a surprise celebration courtesy of the flight attendants. Somewhere over 32,000 feet, the crew made an announcement over the intercom recognizing the young traveler for completing kindergarten.

Earlier today I was at LAX to check out the new American Airlines (AA) 787-9P. The “P” stands for Premium, and this beautiful bird launched today with Chicago (ORD) to Los Angeles (LAX) to ORD and then on to London Heathrow’s (LHR) before it returns to ORD to start the merry-go-round again. They currently have two planes in rotation, but AA will eventually have 30 787-9P aircraft by 2029. Later in the year, they will also be flying it from Philadelphia to Zurich and Dallas to Brisbane and Auckland.

There’s a wild video circulating on social media showing a group of officers in full combat-style gear pulling a passenger off a Southwest Airlines flight. The flight was scheduled from New York’s LaGuardia (LGA) to Dallas Love Field (DAL) but was diverted to Nashville (BNA). The video was posted on TikTok by @kfox_marketingguru, who captioned it: We were diverted going to Dallas to Nashville on Southwest for “gas fill-up”.

I haven’t been to Las Vegas since the pandemic and videos like this aren’t exactly motivating me to rush back. @wonderousATX posted a clip of the Flamingo Las Vegas check-in line, and it’s pure chaos: hundreds, maybe even a thousand, people standing in line at 3:50 p.m. on June 1. The caption reads: “It appears @FlamingoVegas 🦩 is not doing a great job at this hotel check-in guest process thingy.

For most travelers, a winter escape to the Dominican Republic conjures images of sunshine, beaches and all-inclusive relaxation. But for David Bennett, a Burlington, Ontario, Canada resident, what was supposed to be a one-week getaway turned into a two-month nightmare that cost him his freedom, his peace of mind and more than $80,000. Bennett recently returned home after spending 71 days detained in the Dominican Republic, where he was falsely accused of drug trafficking.
