Today Spirit Airlines has announced the introduction of an extra legroom product, the possibility of upgrades for elites and credit card holders, free checked bags for cardholders, and the opportunity to redeem Free Spirit points toward all of the various seating products. Having flown the Spirit Big Front Seat a couple of times, I am particularly interested in redemptions for the premium seating products as this might make Spirit even more attractive.

Danny the Deal Guru at Miles to Memories reports that some American Express cardholders have been targeted with the ability to refer friends and earn 40,000 Amex Membership Rewards points when the person you refer gets approved for an American Express card. That’s an incredible bonus that would make for a nice haul of points if you can refer a family member, friend, or acquaintance.

Loyalty Lobby reports on messaging shown on the Emirates website indicating that classic award space in first class will only be available to those with Emirates Silver, Gold, and Platinum tier members from May 12, 2025 onward. I didn’t see this indicated in my account where Loyalty Lobby shows in their screen shot, but it is unfortunately confirmed on the public miles calculator page. If you’ve been eyeing an Emirates first class award and you do not have elite status, you need to book now.
