LAFAYETTE — Big Bus. That’s been the mentality for Crawfordsville’s girls track and field team in 2025. How many girls can contribute, step up, and earn the team points. Depth has helped the Athenians reach their goals all season, and paid off again on Wednesday — lifting Crawfordsville to an IHSAA sectional title. Crawfordsville scored points in all 16 events and advanced to next week’s regional in 13 to total 145 points to secure the Lafayette Jeff Sectional.

Financing for a new trash truck for the city’s street department gained approval Monday. Crawfordsville City Council members voted 6-0 to approve the first reading of an ordinance making an additional appropriation of $79,913 to the city’s 2025 budget. The funds are for a lease payment on the new trash truck. Mayor Todd Barton told the council the truck was ordered two years ago and was recently delivered.

For 32 minutes, Western Boone stood toe-to-toe with the top-ranked team in Class 2A on Saturday at the Lapel Regional. The Stars and Wapahani Raiders traded runs and big shots deep into the fourth quarter, with nothing separating the teams as the clock reached the final minute of regulation. Unfortunately for WeBo, that’s where their phenomenal run came to an end, as Wapahani made the plays they needed to down the stretch and won their third-straight regional title 53-45.

No issues were found locally following Tuesday’s statewide test of the outdoor weather sirens. The Montgomery County Emergency Management and Homeland Security worked in conjunction with the Montgomery County Central Communication Center to ensure the outdoor weather sirens were synchronized with the statewide test. “Everything went as planned, and we did not encounter any issues,” said Jessica Burget, the director of the MC Emergency Management and Homeland Security.
