No issues were found locally following Tuesday’s statewide test of the outdoor weather sirens. The Montgomery County Emergency Management and Homeland Security worked in conjunction with the Montgomery County Central Communication Center to ensure the outdoor weather sirens were synchronized with the statewide test. “Everything went as planned, and we did not encounter any issues,” said Jessica Burget, the director of the MC Emergency Management and Homeland Security.
County adds carbon sequestration language to zoning code - Journal Review

Montgomery County Commissioners have added carbon sequestration language to the county’s zoning ordinance. On Monday, commissioners voted 3-0 to adopt an ordinance adding Article 21 to the local land use guidelines. Montgomery County Building Administrator Marc Bonwell said the purpose of Article 21 is to manage, regulate and administer carbon sequestration sites and surface impacts in the county.

City appointed officers and full-time employees can expect to see more money in their paychecks next year. On Monday, members of the Crawfordsville Common Council unanimously approved the first reading of a proposed ordinance that sets the salaries of appointed officers and employees for 2025. The proposed pay raise represents a 5% increase. The council also approved the first reading of an ordinance setting the salaries for the mayor, clerk-treasurer, and council members.

The Crawfordsville Board of Public Works and Safety met Wednesday and approved the use of Pike Place on Sunday for the Praise at Pike event hosted by Christ Church 180. The event, which features praise and worship music, is slated for 5-8 p.m. Pike Street will be closed from 1-9 p.m. that day. Bomb threat disrupts downtown Crawfordsville - Journal Review

A bomb threat Tuesday afternoon shut down a portion of downtown Crawfordsville for at least two hours. Sgt. Jeremy Piers, the public information officer from the Indiana State Police, said the Crawfordsville Police Department received a report of a bomb in a parked vehicle near the intersection of Green and Main streets. Officers closed several streets and evacuated people from downtown buildings, including the courthouse.

Crawfordsville Community School District administrators are pleased with the start of the new school year. Superintendent Dr. Rex Ryker told school board trustees Thursday during their regular meeting that enrollment numbers are stable in the district’s brick and mortar buildings. The newly launched Athens Virtual Academy also is doing well. Ryker reported that 119 students are currently enrolled in the online school that offers course work for students in grades 7-12.
