JoySauce

I’m Jonathan Sposato, the creator of Joy Sauce, an innovative entertainment platform designed for American Asians. Our platform features original dramatic series, engaging reality shows, well-crafted articles, podcasts, and selected content from other creators. My background is half-Chinese and half-Korean, and yes, I have an Italian surname, which can be a bit puzzling (I'll explain that later). As I grew up in the U.S., I often noticed a lack of representation for people like me on television. When I did see Asian faces, they were typically cast as servants, villains, or the punchline of a joke. This inspired me to take action and be part of the change. Many other Asian Americans are also working towards this goal, and together we can make a bigger impact. I believe our community is filled with joy, and Joy Sauce aims to create a platform where we can celebrate our happiness and strength. I’m convinced that showcasing powerful AAPI imagery can help shift the narrative and challenge existing stereotypes.

Callina Liang has been cast as Chun-Li in Legendary’s upcoming live-action adaptation of Street Fighter, based on the iconic Capcom video game franchise. Known for her recent breakout performance in Steven Soderbergh’s Presence, which premiered at Sundance in 2024, Liang will take on the role of the skilled martial artist and Interpol agent, who first appeared in the 1991 game Street Fighter II, and has since become a fan-favorite character.

Rendy Jones: What led to your roles? Did you audition for the characters you were cast as? Arden Cho: I actually didn't. I actually auditioned for the mom character. Ji-young Yoo: Oh, really? Whoa. May Hong: Celine? AC: Yes, years ago. And then, I think because of the pandemic, it was slightly paused. Then it came back later as Rumi. And I was like, “Ooh. I would love to be Rumi.” But I didn't know if I was right for it.

Rising global girl group KATSEYE has released their latest single, “Gabriela,” a genre-blending track that leans into Latin acoustic elements. Directed by Andrew Thomas Huang, the accompanying music video sees Jessica Alba as a powerful CEO choosing her successor in a high-drama boardroom showdown, styled as a vibrant homage to classic telenovelas. The track also features the group’s first-ever Spanish-language verse, delivered by Cuban-Venezuelan American member Daniela.

What would happen if the world’s weirdest kid was accidentally abducted by aliens and mistaken as the leader of Earth? This is exactly what happens in Disney and Pixar’s latest film, Elio. Directed by Adrian Molina, Domee Shi, and Madeline Sharafian, the film follows 11-year-old Elio Solis, who becomes the intergalactic ambassador for Earth after he’s beamed up to the Communiverse by aliens for making contact (to be fair, he was asking to be abducted).
