JoySauce

I’m Jonathan Sposato, the creator of Joy Sauce, an innovative entertainment platform designed for American Asians. Our platform features original dramatic series, engaging reality shows, well-crafted articles, podcasts, and selected content from other creators. My background is half-Chinese and half-Korean, and yes, I have an Italian surname, which can be a bit puzzling (I'll explain that later). As I grew up in the U.S., I often noticed a lack of representation for people like me on television. When I did see Asian faces, they were typically cast as servants, villains, or the punchline of a joke. This inspired me to take action and be part of the change. Many other Asian Americans are also working towards this goal, and together we can make a bigger impact. I believe our community is filled with joy, and Joy Sauce aims to create a platform where we can celebrate our happiness and strength. I’m convinced that showcasing powerful AAPI imagery can help shift the narrative and challenge existing stereotypes.

Imagine it’s 2022. You’re looking for new music; whatever’s out now, fresh on the market, unheard by your external auditory meatus. Reviews for Squeeze, the sophomore record from Sasami Ashworth (better known as just Sasami), are positive, so you tune in expecting another dose of the  shoegaze-y dream pop comprising her 2019 self-titled debut. What you get instead is “Skin a Rat,” a malicious industrial grind of unrestrained ferocity, led off with sing-song repetition of the title. It’s tense.

A plane full of assassins flying from Bangkok to San Francisco sounds like an enticing premise. In certain moments, James Madigan’s Fight or Flight exudes the appropriate level of chaos—like in its opening scene, an in medias res depiction of the air-borne action reaching its zenith. There are guns, chainsaws, several Asian women kicking *ss in martial arts gi, and for some reason, even a chainsaw. These introductory images promise something farcical and fun.

The music video sees Rosé in Las Vegas cityscapes intercut with scenes from the F1 film starring Brad Pitt, Javier Bardem, Damson Idris and Kerry Condon. The film, directed by Top Gun: Maverick’s Joseph Kosinski, is set for release on June 27. Its reported budget of more than $300 million is also reflected in the ensemble lineup for the film’s soundtrack released via Atlantic Records: Ed Sheeran, Burna Boy, Tate McRae, Raye, Chris Stapleton, Peggy Gou and more.

New sentences are invented on the Internet every day. And Monday’s Met Gala gave us a doozy: “Is that Rosa Parks on the crotch of K-pop superstar Lisa’s Louis Vuitton fit?”The question, sparked by zoomed-in photos of Lisa’s lace bodysuit, lit up timelines and algorithms.
