Only three times in Chiefs history have they won 14 games in a season. All three of those times have been in the past 5 years. In 2020, where they went 14-2 after resting their starters in week 17 having locked up the bye, and lost to the Chargers. In 2022, they went 14-2 after trading Tyreek Hill, en route to their second Super Bowl in the Mahomes Era. And now, in 2024. The Chiefs just won their 14th game of the season, and have two games left to break their franchise record of 14 wins in a season.

It’s starting to feel like the Kansas City Chiefs (14-1) playing on Christmas Day is a tradition of sorts. Technically, the Kansas City Chiefs played a football game on Sunday afternoon. Technically. I am uncertain that Andy Reid, Steve Spagnuolo, or any of the other coaches were aware of this. I am equally uncertain that any of the Chiefs players we saw on Sunday knew it either. The Chiefs rested 11 starters on Sunday, plus DeAndre Hopkins and Hollywood Brown. Xavier Worthy got exactly one snap, so technically he was not rested. But he was rested. Noah Gray played four total snaps.

The Kansas City Chiefs won 15 of their first 16 games and yet it took until recently for them to be considered the favorite out of the AFC side of the playoffs. Part of that has to do with their only real loss being against the Bills, and the style points both Buffalo and Baltimore have racked up in some of their wins. The Chiefs are, obviously, chasing immortality as the first threepeat in NFL history.
