The Miami-Dade County Courthouse in downtown Miami was built between 1925 and 1928. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1989, and was once believed to be the tallest municipal building in the nation.

    A bill that would make it more difficult for citizens to get constitutional amendments on the ballot is advancing in the Florida Senate. Its sister bill, HB1205, has already passed in the House. Since 1968, Florida voters have been able to amend the state constitution through ballot initiatives. If groups gather enough petition signatures from voters — equal to 8% of the votes cast in the preceding presidential election — an amendment can get on the statewide ballot.
