If ever there was a time for the buzz in Cessna Stadium to reach an absolutely electric, pitch late Friday evening was it. With the action on the opening day at the State Outdoor Track and Field Championships winding down, it in all reality was just heating up. No fewer than five athletes were going after their second state titles in their respective event were competing inside the stadium while the most competitive javelin competition of the weekend was going on just outside.

SALINA – A first-year coach and an undefeated record led to a program’s first state softball title on Friday, as the McPherson Lady Pups put the finishing touches on a 31-0 season by defeating Eudora 4-1 in the Class 4A state championship game. Headlined by Addison Chapman, one of the top all-around players throughout the entire state, talent was never going to be the issue for McPherson heading into the 2025 season.

COTTONWOOD FALLS – When wet and muddy conditions challenged the entire Sand Greens field, it came to nobody's surprise who handled the conditions the best. Lakeside senior Jace Cunningham was the only golfer to finish under par on Wednesday's state meet at Cottonwood Falls Country Club, carding a 1-under 65 to notch his third consecutive state championship and lead the Knights to a fifth straight team title.
