KUCB-FM (Unalaska, AK)
KUCB is a community radio station located in Unalaska, Alaska, broadcasting at a frequency of 89.7 FM. It began operations in October 2008, taking over from KIAL 1450 AM. The station primarily features local programs along with content from National Public Radio, Native Voice One, and Alaska Public Radio. Previously, the KIAL radio and television stations were managed by the city of Unalaska, but due to budget cuts, they transitioned to operate as an independent non-profit organization, relying heavily on support from individual donors. After the transition, KIAL, which had a modest output of 50 watts, shifted to the FM band as KUCB, providing a more powerful signal for its broadcasts.

The shellfish contained extremely high toxin levels, causing symptoms of numbness, weakness and pain. The person ended up dying, despite being medevaced to a hospital in Anchorage. To prevent tragedies like this, the Knik Tribe in South Central Alaska has been running a PSP monitoring program for nearly two decades.

Regional lands are known for their tundra valleys filled with grasses, plants and bushes, not a 10-foot tree in sight. But that changed in Unalaska during the 1800s when Russian colonizers planted many Sitka spruce trees on the island.
