Merchants, residents and visitors coming to the historic downtown Leesburg business district should expect some traffic delays starting this weekend as crews begin setup for the 28th Leesburg Bikefest. Most downtown streets and parking lots will remain open until Wednesday afternoon, but workers will be present throughout the area all week.

    The Lake Xpress Shuttle is offering a convenient way to get to and from Leesburg Bikefest this year. For $1 one way or $3 for an all-day pass, riders can travel hassle free. Students ride free, and half-price fares are available for seniors. Additional multi-use passes are available, as well. The Bikefest stop is located at the Daily Commercial, located at 212 E. Main St., Leesburg, right by the east entrance of the event.

    A Webster woman was arrested for slapping a member of an EMS crew when he put her on a stretcher to be evaluated for intoxication. Officers responded to a woman, later identified as 32-year-old Carissa Ann Stone, in the middle of the road on U.S. Highway 27/441 and Miller Street at 3:30 a.m. Tuesday, according to an arrest report from the Fruitland Park Police Department. Upon arrival, the officers observed Stone sitting in the median wearing pajamas.

    A Fruitland Park man was arrested after wrestling with officers to the point of being tased in the back when questioned about his suspicious behavior. An officer was headed east on West Berkman Street near the intersection with College Avenue when he spotted a lone figure dressed in all black walking in the roadway at 12:40 a.m. Tuesday, according to an arrest report from the Fruitland Park Police Department.
