GUEST COLUMN, Jackie Mundt, Kansas Farm Bureau Recently, I visited a culinary school as part of a stakeholder advocacy training through American Farm Bureau’s Partners in Advocacy Leadership (PAL) program. My PAL classmates and I gave a presentation about our farms and involvement in agriculture to first-year culinary students. Each of us was asked to bring some unique goodies from our home states. We had a pretty impressive spread from sweet potatoes and rice to pistachios and jalapeño jam.

EARL WATT • Leader & Times Fifty fights ago in 2005, Dave Rine hosted the first Throwdown Showdown at his studio on Fourth Street. Since then, his studio has expanded to the former Elks Lodge on North Western Avenue, and his Throwdown Showdown events have grown as well. Rine has hosted fights ina multiple of venues in Liberal, from his original studio to the National Guard Armory, the Activity Center, the Liberal Recreation Center, outdoor venues and the Ag Building to name a few.

LETTER TO THE EDITOR, Pastor Rex Petty, Faith Tabernacle Church I want to especially thank all of those who donated to this year’s Special Super Bowl Event we have been doing here for more than 30 years since 1993. John Earle, who played professional football for the Kansas City Chiefs was our Super Bowl Speaker this year. When he spoke he told everyone about how he nearly died on New Year’s Eve, December 31, 2024, with a massive heart attack plus a blood clot.
