Madison Catholic Herald

Madison Catholic Herald

Since its inception in 1948, the Madison edition of the Catholic Herald has acted as the official newspaper for the Diocese of Madison. The Diocese of Madison was founded in 1946. Recognizing the need for a dedicated publication, Bishop William P. O'Connor appointed Msgr. Andrew R. Breines as the first editor, as the area had previously relied on Catholic newspapers from La Crosse and Milwaukee. Monsignor Breines held his dual roles as both a parish priest and editor from 1948 until his retirement in 1986, documenting the numerous transformations within the church during that time. One significant moment he covered was the Second Vatican Council in the 1960s, where he attended all sessions and shared the insights with the local audience in Madison.

Holy Family Homeschoolers is a support group for Catholic homeschooling families throughout the Diocese of Madison. One of William Shakespeare’s early comedies, the play is suitable for families with children of all ages and is sure not to disappoint.

We are challenged in these final days before Easter to remain faithful and steadfast in our own lives, following Christ’s example of humility and obedience.

Ask me about what film won “Best Picture” this year or what is currently playing at the movie house and I couldn’t give you answers to either. Ask me what Greta Garbo’s first film produced in the United States was, what early 1920s D.W. Griffith film experimented with sound, or what Charlie Chaplin feature from 1923 caused some controversy because his “Tramp” character doesn’t appear in it, and I can totally converse with you.

Fr. Gary Krahenbuhl called it an “opportunity and [a] privilege to unite together two distinct, holy, and stable parishes [and] to create something new — the parish of Queen of Apostles.”For the sixth time, as part of the Diocese of Madison’s Into the Deep comprehensive strategic planning process, multiple parish communities have been brought together as a new and merged parish. Queen of Apostles Parish is made up of the former St. Dennis Parish and St. Peter Parish, both in Madison.
