Salone Nautico opens today, or as the less-poetic know it, the Venice Boat Show. It’s the sixth edition of the Salone Nautico and runs until 2 June. This year is dedicated to sustainability and tradition. Organisers are emphasising sustainable boating, with an area dedicated to electric, hybrid and hydrogen propulsion, while showcasing the artisan soul of the master shipwrights.

A new documentary about the disaster of the OceanGate submersible which imploded 3,800 meters below sea level has been released by the Discovery Channel. It claims unfettered access to the US Coast Guard and reveals that, amongst the debris a pen belonging to Oceangate CEO Stockton Rush survived. “We were getting all hands in and separating what needed to be considered what was human remains, and what was just other wreckage pieces,” says one of the documentary participants.

“We have been promoting Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) as the most suitable transitional fuel for yachting for a number of years now, but with relatively little uptake,” says Chris Warde, yacht team manager, Peninsula Yacht Services. While Warde is bought into the product, he’s finding that yachts aren’t stepping up in quite the same way.
