    The public hearing set for June 3 by the Walworth County commissioners has been postponed. The hearing had originally been set for commissioners to receive public input on the preliminary Walworth County Jail plans. However, on a social media post, the county stated on May 29 it was postponed. “The public hearing on June 3 for jail discussion has been postponed,” it the post read. At the time of the deadline, a new date has not yet been set.

    The Lady Tigers are headed to their first state softball tournament after defeating Hanson 7-2 in the Class B SoDak 16 at Hanson High School Sports Complex in Alexandria on Tuesday afternoon. “We did it,” said coach Andrew Overland. “These seniors have had a lot of heartbreak from being in the SoDak 16 over the years in multiple sports including the last two years in softball. They played a tough schedule this year and saw strong pitchers.

    Nine Lady Tigers and three Tigers will are headed to Sioux Falls for the State Track & Field Meet at Howard Wood Field Thursday through Saturday. Lady Tigers competing at state are seniors Grace and Sophia Overland, juniors Jayda Thompson, Jacy Netterville, Faith Heil and Katie Wollman, sophomore Brooke Bain, freshman Jersey Frederick and seventh grader Bentley Bauer. Three Tigers, senior Shane Henderson, sophomore Jesse Schneider and freshman Trayden Stambach are competing in field events.

    Shane Henderson and Jesse Schneider set career best marks in winning event titles at the Central Plains Super Regional at the Sully Buttes Track Complex in Onida on Thursday. Henderson landed the disc at 145-11 for a dominating win of more than 10 feet. His old personal record was 142-22. Henderson added a third-place finish in javelin at 143-11. Schneider cleared the bar at 5-11 to win high jump. He added an inch to his previous best 5-10.

    Getting faster, farther and higher before the regular season ending track meets is going to be difficult for the Mobridge-Pollock, the area, and in fact, all track athletes with just a couple days of competition left. With the rains that have been steadily falling since last week, not only have there been no meets, but practicing has been difficult when not impossible.
