Lady Tigers dump Hanson, state tournament next

The Lady Tigers are headed to their first state softball tournament after defeating Hanson 7-2 in the Class B SoDak 16 at Hanson High School Sports Complex in Alexandria on Tuesday afternoon. “We did it,” said coach Andrew Overland. “These seniors have had a lot of heartbreak from being in the SoDak 16 over the years in multiple sports including the last two years in softball. They played a tough schedule this year and saw strong pitchers.
Dozen Tigers heading to Class A state track & field

Nine Lady Tigers and three Tigers will are headed to Sioux Falls for the State Track & Field Meet at Howard Wood Field Thursday through Saturday. Lady Tigers competing at state are seniors Grace and Sophia Overland, juniors Jayda Thompson, Jacy Netterville, Faith Heil and Katie Wollman, sophomore Brooke Bain, freshman Jersey Frederick and seventh grader Bentley Bauer. Three Tigers, senior Shane Henderson, sophomore Jesse Schneider and freshman Trayden Stambach are competing in field events.
Henderson, Schneider use PRs to win Onida events

Shane Henderson and Jesse Schneider set career best marks in winning event titles at the Central Plains Super Regional at the Sully Buttes Track Complex in Onida on Thursday. Henderson landed the disc at 145-11 for a dominating win of more than 10 feet. His old personal record was 142-22. Henderson added a third-place finish in javelin at 143-11. Schneider cleared the bar at 5-11 to win high jump. He added an inch to his previous best 5-10.
Schools readying for state during last week of season

Getting faster, farther and higher before the regular season ending track meets is going to be difficult for the Mobridge-Pollock, the area, and in fact, all track athletes with just a couple days of competition left. With the rains that have been steadily falling since last week, not only have there been no meets, but practicing has been difficult when not impossible.
Golf, track, softball all in make-up mode after week of rain

The much-needed rains that have been falling for a few days have done a number on the Mobridge-Pollock High School sports schedule with track, softball and golf all being postponed. The start of the postseason for the Tiger and Lady Tigers was rained out on Monday. The Region 5B Golf Tournament has been rescheduled for Thursday at Hillsview Golf Course in Pierre.

Nobody said it was supposed to be easy, but I don’t think anyone envisioned how difficult the road would be for the Lady Tiger softball team this year. When I penned “road” in the first paragraph, I did not intend it to be a pun, but as it turns out, maybe it is. As of today, the Lady Tigers have not played a game on their home diamond this season.

Eileen Inez (Mayer)Ford was born March 4, 1934, on the farmstead at Mound City, the first born to Theodore and Dorothy (Ackerman) Mayer. Her growing up years were spent on the farm, where she began her elementary education in a country school. Her parents sat her on a large horse named Polly, lunch box in hand, and she was on her way. Later as an adult she received her G.E.D., graduating with several others who had taken the class with her in May of 1986. Friends introduced her to Albertus R.
Jesse Quaschnick was defined by his qualities

James “Jesse” Quaschnick, 70, passed away on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at his home in Mobridge, with his beloved wife by his side. Jesse was born on March 23, 1955, to Walter and Jane (Brandner) Quaschnick and was raised on the family farm near Herreid. He was the sixth of 10 children, joining five older brothers, followed later by four sisters. Jesse held deep affection for the family farm, which is now in the hands of the fourth generation — a legacy that meant a great deal to him.
Lady Wolverine relays earn three Howard Wood medals

The Herreid/Selby Area girls raced to three medals at the 100th Howard Wood Dakota Relays held Friday and Saturday in Sioux Falls. The team of Mariah Peters, Brooklyn Helm, Stephanie Allbee and Breanna Jochim took fourth place in both short sprint relays. They ran the 4×100-meter relay in 51.33 seconds and the 4×200-meter relay at 1:49.99. Bennett County won the 4×100 at 48.71 and Colman-Egan won the 4×200 at 1:46.65.
Bauer, Bain go 1-2 in long jump at Eureka Lions Meet

Bentley Bauer and Brooke Bain led Mobridge-Pollock with a one-two finish in long jump at the Eureka Lions Meet on Tuesday. Bauer won the event with a leap of 14 feet, 11 inches. She nudged out Bain who came in quarter of an inch back at 14-10.75. It was the only win on the day for the Mobridge-Pollock thin clads. Jayda Thompson raced to second place in the 400 with a time of 1:05.14. Bauer took fourth in the race at 1:05.73.
