National FFA Organization
The National FFA Organization is a nonprofit youth group in the United States, recognized under 501(c)(3), that focuses on career and technical education related to agriculture. It was established in 1925 at Virginia Polytechnic Institute by agriculture educators Henry C. Groseclose, Walter Newman, Edmund Magill, and Harry Sanders, originally named Future Farmers of Virginia. In 1928, it expanded to become a national organization known as Future Farmers of America. To reflect its broader mission, the name was changed in 1988 to the National FFA Organization, or simply FFA, highlighting its commitment to students interested in various fields within the food, fiber, and natural resource sectors, including science, business, and technology, along with traditional agricultural practices. Today, FFA stands as one of the largest youth organizations in the country, boasting 735,038 members across 8,817 chapters in all 50 states, as well as Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. It is the largest career and technical student organization found in U.S. schools.

Sometimes you don’t follow a straight path to your dreams. When you find what you were meant to do, however, you realize your journey prepared you perfectly for your destination. Jackie Knowles, for example, didn’t expect to end up as an agricultural education teacher and FFA advisor at Southern Lee High School in Sanford, N.C., but there’s nowhere she’d rather be. “I didn’t realize how impactful it would be to become a teacher,” she says.
