The Princeton Battlefield State Park on Mercer Road will gain a new visitor and education center as well as landscaping to restore it to its 1777 appearance, according to the American Battlefield Trust. The New Jersey state budget includes $1.3 million for the multi-year project entitled “Washington’s Legacy.”The initiative is a joint effort launched by the American Battlefield Trust, the Princeton Battlefield Society and the New Jersey State Parks, Forest and Historic Sites.

Princeton voters will choose from among six candidates for three open seats on the Princeton Public Schools Board of Education in the Nov. 5 general election. Only one of the six candidates – Mara Franceschi – is presently serving on the school board and seeking re-election. Five of the six candidates are newcomers – Ari Meisel, Z. Lisa Potter, Christopher Santarpio, Erica Snyder and Shenwei Zhao. The term is for three years. Franceschi has lived in Princeton for 14 years.

This Nov. 5 general election features a matchup between Democratic incumbent Uma Purandare, the current township deputy mayor, and Republican candidate Bob Zansitis for one open seat on the Township Committee. Purandare is seeking her second term on the Township Committee.

There are four Hopewell Valley Regional school board races on the ballot this Nov. 5 general election but only one that is competitive. The race will be a matchup between two write-in campaigns from Amanda Stylianou and Theresa Vogler for a one-year unexpired term representing Hopewell Township on the school board. On the ballot, the township voters will write the name of their preferred candidate in Column L.
