During a recent Saturday morning, Peter Husby hiked up a steep incline through tall grasslands, rocky terrain and steep inclines. Upon reaching a high point of a rugged area of the Coronado National Forest in western Santa Cruz County, Husby and a few other Tucson Samaritans volunteers began restocking a few crates with water gallons and canned foods – making sure migrants traversing through the remote area would also have access to nonperishable food and water.

The Nogales High School girls tennis team defeated Rio Rico on Monday, winning all six singles and three doubles contests during a match at NHS. The victory raised the Apaches' record to 11-2 with two matches remaining: Tuesday, April 15 against Cholla at home and Thursday, April 17 at Sahuarita. As the No. 7-ranked team in all of Division II as of noon Tuesday, Nogales was in position to host one of eight first-round state tournament matches on April 29.

The first week of May last year was all about kids for us at the NI. On Friday, May 3, 2024, we had a pizza party at A.J. Mitchell Elementary School for the top 75 third-grade artists who participated in our annual Nogales International Drawing Contest, the largest pool of winners in contest history. The following Saturday morning, the NI and Green Valley News/Sahuarita Sun presented trophies to the 19 finalists of our fourth annual AZ19 Most Influential Youth Awards.

The Nogales National Little League inaugurated its 2025 baseball season last Saturday with help from the Arizona Diamondbacks and their gregarious bobcat mascot, Baxter. Teams of children ages 4-12, organized into divisions ranging from T-Ball and Coach Pitch to Minors and Majors, ringed the outfield grass for the Opening Day ceremony.
