Nogales landowner Constantine “Dino” Panousopoulos, who’s accused of bribing a former county assessor for favorable valuations, won’t face a jury for at least another three months. The jury trial, which also involves co-defendant Luis Manuel Flores, was once again delayed and is now tentatively scheduled to begin Sept. 2 at U.S. District Court in Tucson. The sentencing for former County Assessor Felipe Fuentes, who pleaded guilty to participating in the bribery scheme, was also delayed to Aug. 7.

When Vanessa Moroyoqui enrolled at Pierson High School as a sophomore, she encountered big obstacles. She had just moved into town from Hermosillo, Sonora, didn’t speak English, and was unfamiliar with the U.S. education system. She felt a bit lost, she described. That is, until she was accepted into the Summer Youth Institute at Mariposa Community Health Center. The program taught her the value of a high GPA and opened the doors to various educational and scholarship possibilities, she said.
