Wabash County ‘Hands Off’ protest brings concerned citizens to the street

More than 100 Wabash County citizens gathered in front of the courthouse this afternoon for a “Hands Off !” protest against President Donald Trump administration policies, Saturday, April 5. The rally was one more more than 1,000 around the United States. The local event was organized by Wabash County Democratic Party Chair Tammy Ingalls.

Kristen Petruniw has resigned from the Wabash City Schools Board effective March 18, the Wabash City Council learned on Monday, March 24. Petruniw, who resigned as executive director of Downtown Wabash Inc. in December, will become a guidance counselor for the Wabash City Schools, Mayor Scott Long informed council. He informed the council of the opening because the council appoints members to the school board.

Wabash may one day earn a Tree City designation. The Wabash Board of Parks and Recreation approved Park Superintendent Adam Hall working with Geoff Schortgen, Extension Educator for the Wabash County Purdue Cooperative Extension Office, toward receiving the designation. Schortgen discussed plans with the Park Board when it met on Wednesday, March 12. He said work is just in the beginning stages and that it could take up to a year before the city is prepared to seek the designation.

The Wabash City Council approved on first reading a measure to increase the fine for heavy traffic on local streets. Under the current ordinance, the fine is $200. Squires win first sectional title in 3 decades

In the first week of the regular season, Manchester traveled to Oak Hill and stunned the Eagles with a 40- point victory. Just more than three months later, the Squires did it again, this time by 32 points in the sectional championship game Saturday night, March 8, running away from Oak Hill, 70- 38. And this time, it was for the Squires’ first sectional championship since the 1995 season.
