The Austrian Broadcasting Corporation, known as ORF, serves as Austria's national public service broadcaster. It is financed through a mix of television license fees and a small amount of advertising. ORF holds a leading position in the Austrian broadcasting landscape. Notably, Austria was the last nation in continental Europe, following Albania, to permit private television broadcasting on a national scale. However, commercial TV channels from Germany have been accessible in Austria through pay-TV and terrestrial overspill since the 1980s.
