Original 106 FM

Original 106 is a local radio station that serves the Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire areas. It began under the ownership of Canadian media firm Canwest, and received its broadcast license from Ofcom in January 2007, marking it as the last new commercial FM license issued at that time. The station went live on 28 October 2007 at 1:06 pm, launching with The Beatles' song "Revolution" as its first track. On 12 September 2009, the station changed hands, being purchased by a group led by Adam Findlay, which also included John Quinn and Murray Strachan. Adam Findlay's New Wave Media previously owned Wave 102 in Dundee, while John Quinn is the majority owner and chairman of Central FM, which broadcasts to the Forth Valley region in the Central Belt. On 20 March 2019, it was announced that the publisher DC Thomson, who already owned Wave FM in Dundee, acquired both Kingdom FM in Fife and Original 106, expanding their radio station portfolio to three.
