A plan to execute a credit card application between the city of Paragould and a bank was approved Monday evening, as well as a pair of condemnation requests on properties, according to officials. The Paragould City Council gave the go-ahead for executing the plan with Simmons Bank, City Clerk Shelia Ragsdale said. The city now uses a traditional credit card system for purchases but plans to go to a purchasing credit card system.

Students with an area school are highlighting murals in Downtown Paragould in order to preserve history. The students are working on a project to create an interactive map that visitors can use to learn more. School officials said the three sixth grade students – Kaleb Newman, Hayden Robinson and Kilend Virgies – are working on the project and are EAST students at Nettleton STEAM Intermediate. The work began May 8.

It may be several months away from the new school year, but the Paragould School Board gave the go-ahead late last week for the district’s 2025-26 calendar. During the special meeting on May 1, the board approved the calendar and several other items. According to the calendar, the new school year begins Aug. 13 with classes. The Greene County sales tax numbers for April dropped compared to both last month and last year. According to official numbers released Friday, the sales tax brought in $652,600 in April, down from the $708,333 brought in for April 2024. The numbers — based on February 2025 collections — were a 7.87 percent decrease from April 2024 numbers and a 1.34 percent drop from last year to date.
